Today is a cold and rainy day. For the first time of our life, we learnt that summer can be so cold. Nevertheless, we went to school and attended lessons with the students.
After which, we braved the rain and the wind to visit the Imperial Palace or Gu Gong

For those who are wandering what are we eating for every meals, here is a picture to show you:

Day 3

The weather is getting colder here even though it is summer. Today, we have done quite a lot of things. Firstly, we had experienced the mass exercise in Beijing 109 Middle School. It was an amazing site to see how swiftly the students gathered at the parade square and did their exercise in a systematic manner. Secondly, we had a chance to taste the food in their school canteen. Unlike what we have imagined, the food was simply deliciou

After our lessons and lunch at the school, we visited the Temple of Heaven and a silk factory. The Temple of Heaven or Tian Tan is simply amazing. Not a nail was used in the construction of the temple. Here are some pictures of our visit to Tian Tan:

Day 2

We had a great time today. The Beijing 109 Middle School gave us a warm welcome in the morning and inducted us into their school culture. Also they had treated us to grand dinner at the Bian Yi Fang. Also we had visited the Tiananmen Square and climbed the Tiananmen Tower. The weather here is similar to Singapore but the humidity is quite low. Anyway, here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

We are in Beijing

Hi everybody! We have reached Beijing around 11pm just now. I am now blogging from our own hotel room! Unlike Singapore hotels, each room in the Peixin hotel has a computer with internet access! We are overjoyed!

When we arrived in Beijing,we are welcomed by our tour guide Amy, the Principal and HOD of Bejing 109 Middle School. After that, we boarded a charted bus that took about 30 min to transport us to our hotel.

Everyone looks tired after the long flight from Singapore to Beijing. We look forward to the exciting journey ahead.

Tomorrow, we will be attending lessons at Beijing 109 Middle School and after that we will visit Tian an men.

Introduction to the Twinning programme

On 30 May 2006, the Principal of Serangoon Secondary School, Mr Yeo Kuerk Heng together with 2 teachers, Mdm Duan Haijie and Mdm Ong Chan Hong went to Beijing to establish the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Beijing 109 Middle School.

The objectives of this MOU is to embark on an Exchange Programme involving students and teachers of both schools in a framework of cooperation between Serangoon Secondary School and Beijing 109 Middle School to develop mutually beneficial programmes that leverage on each other’s strengths.

Students selected for this programme will attend lessons and visit places of interests for cultural exposure. This will allow students to appreciate the different cultures and learning environments in both places. In addition, students will be able to learn the good practices from each other. In particular, our students will focus on building up the competency in Mathematics while the China students will benefit from the English learning environment. Activities planned include the involvement of the students in Community Involvement Programme, such as sharing of experiences and setting up websites to provide a convenient platform for interaction. This will help to foster closer interaction between the students of both schools.

The duration of the Exchange Programme is Three years and the inaugural trip will commence in 28 May 2007.
